A SNOWMAN, TREASURES AND MEMORIES

Who loves snowmen? I do, I do!! I have been dabbling in punchneedle a little bit lately, a nice change of pace for a couple of days. Below are some photos of "Moonlight Skate" I just completed. I really enjoy punchneedle and the best thing about punchneedling is you can start and finish a project in no time at all. With Thy Needle & Thread has THE best punchneedle kits. Their designs are wonderful and so fun to do. If you have never tried it, you should, its habit forming (just like cross stitch) and I find it very rewarding!

Moonlight Skate

by With Thy Needle & Thread

Hope you are enjoying the beginning of a new weekend. It has been a long week! This morning I woke up to snow, yes snow, bbbrrrrrrr!!!!! I guess I need to start getting used to it because it is only going to get colder. My sweet cat, Jaspurr, is snuggled up against me and helping keep me a little bit warmer.

Yesterday I had a few extra hours of me time, so I went on a treasure hunt. I love to go shopping at second hand/thrift stores and antique stores. I found a few things I really liked so I thought I would share some of them with you.

First off I found this time worn book, I love the designs and scroll work on it. It was printed in 1904 and measures about 7" x 3". It is written in a different language so I am not sure exactly what it is, but some type of religion book. I love to display old books and one (meaning me, myself and I) can never have too many.

A fun darner with chippy yellow paint, which I will turn into a Christmas ornament to hang on the tree in my kitchen.

Ok, these spoons have not been cleaned yet, but I was so happy when I found these. They are the same pattern as my grandmothers silverware that she used when I was young. I squealed when I found them and the lady down the isle from me had to ask me why because she could tell I had found a "treasure".

And lastly, sorry for the blurry photo, I just couldn't get it right. I found this beautiful pair of silver scissors and look at that adorable postcard of "Adam & Eve", it is a real picture and it was printed in Germany. Very unique. I loved their bellies and that umbrella. I really had a fun day Friday.

Moonlight Skate is lovely! I've tried punching and I agree it moves along quickly. I haven't tried one of With Thy Needle and Thread punching designs yet, but I'm off to shop, I mean look. LOL!

Jolene, what a great punchneedle finish! I love how you finished it off too, on the hornbook thingie! I agree, With Thy Needle has some wonderful punch designs, I have several kitted up and waiting for me to do!

What wonderful finds, all of them!! Gosh, you really do well on your treasure hunts! Everything is so cool, and I esp. love that you found those spoons that match your grandmother's and had a good squeal over them! Yippee! And the photo is just priceless, those bellies! Love the scissors too!

Your posts always make me happy!

What lovely treasures! Not to mention the super cute punchneedle finish ;) I just bought a couple of patterns for the punchneedle from Country Stitches. Do you use the threads they call for or make your own conversion?

What great treasures you found! I have done a couple of punch needle projects myself but I don't care for it as much as cross stitch. I guess because I keep having trouble with the thread coming out.I love love love your snowman. I love snowmen too. Good thing to have out all winter.

What a great punchneedle finish, Jolene! I absolutely love her stuff and have several waiting in the wings to do. They're great travel projects when the road it too bumpy to cross stitch.

You also had some amazing finds at your thrift stores. The book is so pretty - I love the cross on the front and your scissors and silverware are gorgeous. What will you do with that sweet "A&E" picture?

I had no luck thrifting today - treasures must be waiting for another day, I guess.

Love your snowman! I agree, With Thy Needle and Thread has the best designs ever, punch needle or otherwise! Great thrift shop finds too! So cool that you found that silverware pattern!

It's always great to find treasures that remind you of your childhood. I am willing to bet that the book you found is actually a Bible (the cross on the cover kinda points in that direction). It would be neat to see a picture of one of the pages. I may even be able to help you determine the language?

Love your punchneedle snowman. Very cute indeed.

We've had hot weather so far this November, which is not normal for Victoria. Keep warm with that snow falling!

What wonderful treasures you found! Could that book be the Bible in a different language? If so, that would be the piece of treasure ever! Love the punch needle, gorgeous work!!!

Your skating Santa looks gorgeous. A wonderful finish.
The old book looks like a bible. I also love old books and have a shelf where I have them on display. Very nice finds.

What a neat finish, Jolene! I love their patterns. I have the stuff to do punch needle, just haven't tried it yet. I'm almost afraid to start another hobby yet it complements the stitching so nicely, I think.

I love the treasures, too!

Love your snowman, Jolene! Punchneedle is something I've always wanted to try, but just haven't gotten around to...

Don't you love the thrill of finding that perfect "must-have" treasure in an antiques/second-hand shop! You found some beauties :)

Wow! What great treasures you found while off on your little hunt! THE SILVERWARE is actually the very same pattern MY grandmother and then my mother had and I have a few pieces of it too! I was very surprised to see the pictures you have...Ha! Small world! Love seeing the rest too and makes me want to go off to the antiques stores we have here tomorrow! Have a few smaller kits for needlepunch too. I really need to TRY those out too as I don't have enough to do! LOL

Jolene - What fantastic finds you found! I've been searching for scissors and haven't come across any yet. I definitely need to add one old pair to the collection. But I really like everything that you found. And what luck to find the silverware that matched your grandmother's. How often does something like happen?

And I just love your snowman. This is not something that I've tried yet, but I definitely need to some day. The pattern is so cute! She has a lot of cute patterns. But how appropriate to finish the snowman and then get snow!

Hi Jolene!

I wanted to comment on your "foreign language book" (I really think I must just be such a bookworm, because I'm totally burning to see a pic of the inside. :P)

I'm going to go ahead and hazard a guess that it's actually a missal, and probably a Roman Catholic one at that (simply because to my limited knowledge they are the most common).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missal

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Missal

I'm making this guess based on the size of the book, and also the fact that if it were in fact a bible you'd know it no matter what language. :D Any chance you'll favor us with a pic of the inside?
