Smitten

Today I came down with a terrible bout

a sickness that is serious and deadly, no doubt

The doctors say it’s without a cure

and just how I got it, they are unsure

The symptoms are awful

and horrible, I say

You appear to be glowing

all night and all day

You also will experience

a permanent smile

and a continuous happiness

that makes life worthwhile

the worst part of this whole thing

is when your words become muddled

you get all nervous and can’t speak

and turn into a puddle!

But never fear, my friend!

this illness will not bother you

unless you are hopelessly in love

with a love that’s true

for this illness with which I’ve been stricken

happens only when you fall in love,

when you are smitten…

like mittens!!
