A GIFT FOR SHARLOTTE

Ewe & Eye & Friends
Petite Exemplary #3
DMC - changes made

Today I am sharing my first "real' floss tag I made for Sharlotte . What a crazy story, I made her one very similar to the one I am now posting, as the first one I sent to her was lost in the mail. So, I started round "2", I guess a little practice never hurt anyone, right? (I am just realizing I forgot to take a photo of the pretty paisley fabric I put on the back.)

Actually I took these photo's sitting in the truck trying to put together her package while my husband was in line at the post office saving me a place. It was the Saturday before Christmas so the post office was really busy. I guess in all the hurrying I was doing trying to get her card signed and the package already to go, I just forgot to snap a photo of the back. Darn it!! I was trying my hardest to get it to her before Christmas, but it didn't make it to her until yesterday the 28th.

On the original floss tag that was lost in the mail I put some velvet rick rack around the edges. This time I did the finishing a little different. I purchased some hand dyed wool and cut it into 1/4" strips and then I cut each strip into 1/4" pieces by snipping it from side to side creating almost little 1/4" square pieces of wool. Then I took some thread and wove them back and forth pulling it into a twisted edging. Then I hand stitched it to the edge. I hope that made sense. This way it kind of made a frame on the edges rather than just something to cover up the edges of the two pieces that were glued together.

All in all, I think it turned out ok. I really struggled on trying to put the hole for the eyelet in this piece. I guess I was just scared of actually cutting the fabric and ruining it. But everything turned out good. Whew!!!

Thanks again Sharlotte for the beautiful strawberry pincushion/scissor fob, I LOVE it!!! I hope you enjoy your floss tag. Until next post, thanks for visiting my blog and happy stitching!!!

I think the floss tag turned out fabulous Jolene! Wool huh? It's so soft , I could have sworn it was chenille! I'll try to post a picture of the backing fabric on my blog tomorrow. I agree, it is a very pretty fabric! Thanks again!

What a beautiful fob! I love the fringe effect too but I don't get how you created it. The colors are luscious!

Happy New Year!

Beautiful work! What a bummer that the first one got lost in the mail -- argh! Hopefully it'll turn up someday. Love that peacock in your header -- whoa! Didn't know there were pure white peacocks!

This is so nice--I also saw it on Sharlotte's blog as well. The edging is so unique. I would have been the same way about setting the eyelet--so much is invested in stitching that mistakes are nerve-wracking! (Even potential ones!) I like the albino peacock in your banner--I saw a photo of one just today on a woman's blog which is about her adventures as a lawyer/newish mother.

The edging is BRILLIANT!

That is so beautiful. It's such a shame when things go missing in the post - I lost a handknit shawl that way this year.
